Dental Office Logos - Dentistry Logo Design

Dentistry Logos are a graphic designers dream! Think of all those available images: teeth, smiles, mouths, frothy bubbles and toothpaste, and tools. And no need for the "Do it Yourself" designer to worry about the clip art found in a Desktop Publishing program being used by a competitor. Why not? Think of how many dentistry Logo designs you've seen and how many include pictures of teeth. Teeth and tools tell the viewer the image represents a dental practice but do they really differentiate one practice from another?

Color and Graphics

There are plenty of things you can do with color and graphic enhancements to make your logo design stand out from the rest. Colors used most frequently are white for smiles, and shades of red for mouths. If you want to be different, try different colors. To convey professionalism in their logos some include the medical image of a snake coiled around a staff. The abundance of available imagery means many Dental Logos end up looking cluttered and thus less functional. An image that can't be enlarged or reduced without diminishing the message of the identity can't be used in as many places as one that can be reduced or enlarged. A good image could be reproduced on a promotional shirt or hat as well as on letterhead or the web or in advertising and marketing materials.

Fear-Soothing Logos for the Dental Practice

Despite all those pictures of things associated with dental care, an image you'll never see anywhere is an image of a pair of pliers, or a drill. Why not? The answer is obvious: most people fear going to the Dentist. In fact, amongst medical practices, Dentists are the least popular. Some feel that logos that accentuate the positive aspects -- bright white smiles and foamy, clean teeth -- ignore this basic fact. Practices and suppliers and anyone needing a new company image who acknowledges this fear want an identity that promotes a calm and reassuring feeling. Think about this for a moment. The most frequent image appearing in Dental logos is one of an extracted tooth with roots showing. If you are one of the many who have a morbid fear of having your teeth pulled, what does an identity that depicts exactly what you are deathly afraid tell you? How about, Stay Away! But it is possible to design an image that deals with this unhealthy fear.

Designing The Identity

The Identity can convey a sense of reassurance by substituting graphical enhancements like graceful curving lines and soothing fonts and colors. Curving lines can be configured in the shape of a smile or of a mouth, without reminding viewers that the teeth are ultimately going to be involved here. Eliminating the teeth and tool images and substituting the universal medical shield symbol -- a winged shaft with two snakes coiled around it facing each other -- goes a long way towards reminding viewers of the logo that Dentists are trained Medical Professionals. While dentistry logos may be some of the most difficult to design, it can be done and it can be done well. If you want to take the easier "Teeth and Smiles" way, it becomes easier. For a reassuring image, consider hiring a professional business logo design consultant. It will be worth the price.

Where to Get Ideas for a Logo Design

It is not uncommon for business professionals to run out of great ideas for their respective company's logo design. Since your business logo should be about your company, it would be better to start looking at what your company currently has. Often, you will discover insights if you start from within.

There might be colors that associate with the origin and history of your company. For example, some companies owned by Spanish people usually have red on their logo design. It symbolizes their nationality and patriotism. You could also use colors that represent your advocacy. For instance, companies that emphasize environmental advocacy often use green dominantly.

You could also develop your logo out of the basic shapes. But, of course, it still has to be significant to your company. Arrows could symbolize direction which the company probably gives its clients. Religious organizations use the cross shape that symbolizes their faith. Triangles could be used by mountaineering companies to symbolize mountains or by housing organizations to represent houses that they provide their clients.

Other elements which you can play with to get ideas for your logo are icons. You could have a bread for bakeshops, books for a bookshop, dress for a tailoring parlor, or mirror for a salon. You could also use a logo that may not obviously tell what you are as a company but still has relevance.

There are also places where you can hunt for ideas for your logo. In the library, for example, there are books that feature logos that made history. The same information can also be accessed easily on the Internet. Together with the logo gallery perhaps is an explanation as to how this or that logo became an icon in the graphics design industry. Study the elements that made it effective. But never ever imitate any of them. A logo should be original. If you do copy it, you are telling people that your company is as good as a second rate copycat. You would not want to do that.

Logos should equate with your company. So, as a final suggestion, you can try to find ideas and inspiration for your company emblem from the very people working for your company. Your employees, from top to bottom, are the ones who know the company more. They would know how the company can best be represented and rolled into one unique, powerful, and effective logo design.

Logo Design - Why is it so Important?

It is amazing and also sad that a lot of business owners don't know the value of a logo design. It may be due to the fact that we don't have concise and to the point information available to help businesses understand why it is important to get their brand identity right, or else the consequences can be devastating. It is crucial to know why a logo is important and what role it plays in the success of a business. So, here I will discuss why a quality logo is a must for a business and how difficult it may be to design the right logo.

Let's first discuss what a logo design actually. So, when you think about the purpose of a logo, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? The answer may vary based on each individual's own perception, but the clear answer can be that it's a picture or an image. Now, if it's simply a picture then why do we have professional logo designers? Can't just a person fire up a design software and create his or her own image? See, this is the problem actually. Considering your logo a mere picture is the biggest mistake you can ever make in the world of branding.

It is a normal practice that people first see the logo before buying a product. This is what branding does and this is how it helps companies get recognition, trust and fame. Let's take the example of Nike. What is so great about it that people love to buy their shoes? Is it that their shoes are really good? Do you know that there are some smaller brands with cheaper prices and better quality? So, why do people still go for Nike and other such brands?

Remember, people don't just buy a product, they buy that brand. It is a result of powerful branding, but your branding and marketing will be useless without a professionally designed and high quality logo.

Now, having said that, let's talk about how difficult it can be to create a top quality logo for your business. I don't mean to scare you by saying that, but the point is that this is a big task and it shouldn't be taken lightly.

Now, the first thing that you need to take care of is the design of your logo itself. It has to be technically correct. It must look professional and appealing. You must use the best colors, relevant to your industry. It should be able to grab the attention of your market easily.

Another very important thing that you need to ensure is that your logo must be scalable. At times, you will be promoting your business on different platforms. So, if you are unable to adjust the size of your logo design perfectly, then the entire image will be ruined. So, it is a must.

Last but not least, your logo design must be unique and must correctly represent your business.

So, to achieve all this, ensure that you hire a professional logo designer, otherwise you may end up ruining your brand image.

Logo design creates success

The most important step for the perfect brand positioning is a logo design. Logo gives an identity to your business that lasts not only in the consumer's mind but in the competitor's mind too. It also has a unique visual appeal that lends veracity to your corporate image.

It is known to be the perfect recipe for success. As it is an important element that leads to achievement in the marketplace so, it has to be dealt the same way. A business person should search for a logo design company that has immense practice and can craft the desired logo design. A designer with expertise would understand even the clogged thoughts of the business person and interpret his vision of the kind of logo he wants.

A logo can have an all-text element, an all-visual or illustration element or it can perfectly be a blend of all. It also uses all design elements efficiently and in the right proportion, so as to craft an attractive and applaud able design. Overall, it should be creative logo design that finally emerges as innovativeness is inviting and more or less leaves an impact forever.

Although, it will require a lot of efforts on the part of designer to come up with a unique design yet the final result would be satisfactory. What happens more often is that even en experienced and efficient designer mixes up with old designs and creates a look alike unknowingly. But another important fact is that this happens all the time and the designer and business person should be patient to revise it off and on to come up with a distinctive business logo design.

Also, a vital point that all designers should bear in mind is that the design has to be as simple and uncomplicated as possible. If it is a muddled design, it will do nothing but confuse the viewer. There should be a minimal use of color as a black and white logo is also capable of creating a more lasting impact than a logo full of colors which, eventually loses out in the market. A logo design company with expert designers understands this verity and thus creates the logo keeping in mind all the important points.

Therefore, your logo should be the perfect reflection of your company. It should also at the same time be distinguishing and easy to relate to. Both the designer and the business owner should remember that, more than anything else, originality will score in a logo design.

To get logo design reflective of your business it is pivotal to get a logo design company that creates business logo design just the way you want it!

The Importance of a Well-Designed Logo

You have one chance to make a first impression. Potential customers will form an opinion of a business within seconds. A companys logo is therefore extremely influential, as it is almost always the first thing a customer will see. In addition, once a customer becomes familiar with a business, the companys logo will always be associated with that company name, and in turn, the company name will be associated with the logo. For these reasons, a considerable amount of thought should go into choosing a logo. A logo should be simple, recognizable, and effective at conveying the desired message to the public. Each aspect of a logos design should be carefully analyzed to ensure that it does in fact communicate the right message. The logos colors, style, size, shape, font (if it is a logotype), and overall design each play a part in the logos overall design, and are all important components to consider when creating an effective logo. Color is immensely important, as color has a dramatic effect on an individuals reaction to almost anything. Restaurants not only carefully choose the colors of their logos, but also carefully select the colors of the restaurant interior. In their case, color affects how appetizing a potential customer views their restaurant, and in turn can have a dramatic affect on the amount of business they receive. The colors of the logo or restaurant can be the reason a hungry customer chooses one establishment over another. Financial businesses and banks tend to choose strong conservative colors such as darker blues and reds, to convey stability, trust and success. In some cases, a particular color itself often becomes associated with a business. As the background for their logo, UPS has used the color brown, which is now generally associated with their company. Since the color brown communicates stability, they have been able to use the association as a way of conveying a message of reliability to their customers. In addition to color, the general style of a logo will determine the overall feeling conveyed to the public. The logos style will determine whether people will view the business as conservative or trendy, casual or formal, expensive or low-priced, friendly or exclusive, etc. If a logo includes the actual company name, the font type used in the logo is part of its style as well, and will therefore also come into play by affecting an individuals overall response to the logo. Size is also important to consider. A logo will be used in large-scale settings such as advertisements, store-fronts and billboards, but will also be used for small-scale needs like email communication, websites, business cards and corporate stationery. A logo should be designed so that it will be effective and recognizable regardless its size. Overall, a good logo is a vital part of a successful business, and much more influential than many people realize. Since individuals are often unaware of the effect logos have on their own decisions, they may also be unaware of the influence a well designed logo will have on their own business. By taking time to evaluate the different aspects of a logo, business owners can ensure that their company logo will have a much greater impact.

Evaluating a Logo Designer's Portfolio

In choosing the best graphic artist for your logo design, there are so many factors to consider that may help you in your decision making. The designer's portfolio is as important as any credential that designers have.

Graphic designers may have a good working history with their clients, but in choosing one for your logo design, what is more important to evaluate is the designer's portfolio. Designs that are according to the company's need and taste are a plus. A very good portfolio is developed by an artist to impress clients. It will serve as evidence and proof of what the designer promised with regards to the type of service he or she can provide.

Presentation. The overall representation of the portfolio, like the case, type of paper, and so on, will surely show the quality of the design the graphic artist produces. A presentable and professional-looking portfolio will mean that the artist is committed to her or his craft by paying much attention to even the smallest detail. From the casing to the type of paper, the appearance of the portfolio matters.

Consistency. Look for consistency in the portfolio, for this will also reflect how the designer works. There should be no errors and erasures, and the paper should be neat and the content organized.

Starting and Finishing Works. Once you open the portfolio, the first sample should already put you in awe. As you progress through the designer's portfolio, the work quality should also improve. The items in the portfolio should get stronger and better from first to the last item, not getting weaker.

Updated Portfolio. An updated portfolio means that the designer is committed to the craft. Frequent improvement will show that the designer accepts changes and is in the know when it comes to trends. This is a very good characteristic to look for, especially if you are just starting out with your business and want the expert visualization of a designer on what is in and what is out when it comes to designing a company logo.

The designer with a very good portfolio will reflect competence in the work he or she is tasked to do. If you see a well-organized portfolio, it will be very easy to evaluate and assess the works of the designer. Simple details, such as the paper used and the neatness of the portfolio, say a lot of things about the graphic artist. Importance of having a good logo design

When a child is born we immediately name the child, and with his name we suffix the family or father's name. Why so? We want that for the entire life the child be called, remembered, recognized and acquainted by his or her name and we add family or father's name to his or her name to differentiate the child from other child having similar name.
Similarly, when you plan to run a serious business, the first step you take is that you plan what to do as per your budget; the next step you take is that, you give a name to your business; to be successful; you want it to be acquainted, recognized and remembered by the public. So for convenience of your target audience, you tend to add a symbol as a brand to the name. This is called a " Logo design ". You can have a Simple logo, a Bright logo, or a Classy logo. While doing so remember the following:

Logo design is a symbol of the company's goals, attitude and it targets market logo is the visual design element.
It creates the all important First impression in a professional manner.
It is a symbol that conveys your company's or product's, quality and trust worthiness.

To summarize, think, what attracts you the most when you go to buy a book, off course the Cover of the book. The front page headlines and the news article are selected with extra care by all the news papers. They capitalize on it. Yet the above fold which is the top section of a news paper is read the most. Your LOGO is the major contributing factor to your success Logo is a symbol. It must be remembered the most It's a visual synergy.
Logo conveys the message, you want to express to the public. Logo expresses entire company and everything it stands for.

Strategy and Tips for a Successful Logo Design

Visual processing is the most important way for gathering information for all human beings. A good design or graphics work is remembered for ages and that is what drives the multinational companies to spend millions of dollars on developing their logo and other branding material. They would go to any extent to create a solid visual impact and leave a permanent impression on their customer?s mind.

While designing your logo and providing the necessary details to your designer you need to always keep in mind what you want your customers to feel about your company when the see your logo. A logo design can actually be a compressed story for your business and tell your customers about the nature and attitude of your business.

"Logo Design" Begins at Home

Yes, your home is the place where you take the first step of your logo design process. Look at the different bottles and pouches you are using everyday in the kitchen, look at the logos they have, look at the logos on your electronic equipments, check the logo on the bag that you got from the shopping mall yesterday. Everyday we come across 1000s of logos but we remember just a few, if we look around, we can find different types of logos around us. Also, visit the local supermarket to check the logos on the array of products they have. It is always better to check out the logos of your competitors who are in the same industry. While doing this, you are sure to find some logos that stand out from the others and this is going to help you conceptualize your logo design.

Once you have made up your mind on how you want your logo to be, its time you write them down clearly demarcated into small objective points which can work as instructions for your logo designer.

One thing you should be careful, while going through different logos of other companies you must not be so influenced by any of them so that your logo becomes a replica or modified version of another logo that you saw. A good design often affects our sub conscious mind and we unknowingly duplicate certain parts of it. It is extremely important that your logo design is unique. A unique logo design increases the likelihood for getting a trademark protection. It is advisable that you take the assistance of a trademark lawyer for your trademark search and to ensure that you do not run into the risk of infringing some other companies trademark symbol or logo.

Using ClipArt

If you area small local business or a mom-n-pop shop you might not be that keen in investing towards a logo and establishing your brand (though I sincerely believe that?s very wrong). In such situation, you can try using some high quality royalty free clip art combining it with a suitable typeface to put your company name. You can also use more than one clip arts to create the total graphics for your logo.

However, you should keep in mind that clip arts would never give you the effect of a custom logo and they can be easily duplicated or stolen. Even if you are modifying a clip art, it is almost impossible to get a trademark on that. In future, once your business grows to the level when you need to have trademarked logo you will have to get a total new logo (may be something closer to the one you have) and start with your branding efforts once again to establish that new logo.

To avoid all this problems it is advisable that you get a unique custom logo and it is not always that you need to spend a lot on your logos. There are companies on the web that offers custom logo design at reasonable price.

Some More Logo Design Tips

1)Keep it simple: Remember, simplicity is the key. Most of the great logos are absolutely simple and it is always easier for us to remember and recognize a simple design than to identify a complicated artwork. If you want to have some complex illustration for your logo, try to minimize the number of lines and make it as simple as possible keeping in mind that the viewer should be able to understand what has been drawn.

2)Typography: You should be careful while deciding on the typeface that you intend to use for your logo. Choosing the correct typeface can make a lot of difference. For example, a finance company depicting strength and stability would like to use some bold, thick font. Also, the letters can be twisted to create simple yet nice logos. Some ideal examples of logo that contains only letters are "SONY" and Dell - remember the twisted "e"?

3)Always Use Vector Graphics: Always ask your designer to provide you the logo as vector graphics. The advantage is, vector graphics can be resized without any loss of details and image quality. You can resize it as per your requirement. In addition, vector graphics take lesser memory capacity in your computer.

4)Choice of Color: You should be careful while deciding on your logo colors. It is advisable to restrict yourself to RGB or CMYK colors so that your logo looks equally good in print as it looks on web. Also, ensure that your logo looks good in black and white as well, mind it, you will also have to use your logo on while faxing any of your marketing material or corporate documents.

Finally, it is always better if you are employing any specialized logo design firm to create your logo design than doing it yourself. It is their profession so they would know it much better than you do and neither is logo design always very costly. Definitely, there are companies that charge you $500 for a logo, however there are also companies that offers equally good services with very much affordable pricing (Corporate Logo Design). It is just a matter of locating that designer and you can be on your way to having a wonderful custom logo design.

Logo Files: Versions Of Your Logo That You Should Own

Your logo is the most important graphic element in which you will invest for your business. You should own the logo in many file formats. Having a library of logo files will enable you to send vendors the types of files they need (for example, other designers, printers, or other service providers).

There are two major categories that I will cover in this article ? color variations and file-type variations.

Color Variations

You should receive your logo graphic from your designer in all of the file types listed below in the "File Formats" section (unless otherwise noted) in the following color variations:

Pantone color or CMYK color
Pantone color (if applicable) ? If you intend to have your business cards or other materials printed professionally, choosing Pantone colors makes the process less expensive than printing in full four- (or CMYK-) color, unless you choose to use the new printers available today. See my article on inexpensive printing options, coming soon!. Full CMYK color ? This is for four-color printing, full color ads, and for use on any materials that you intend to print from your own desktop color printer, i.e, invoices, statements, receipts, letters, etc.

RGB color
RGB color ? For use on your website or in your email. You should get JPEG and GIF formats in this color scheme.

Grayscale and/or black and white versions
Grayscale ? If your logo contains more than one color, or if it has tones or shades of one color, you should receive a grayscale version. You would use this when your logo is included in the newspaper or in the Yellow Pages, or on any black and white laser-printed materials you may create.

Black and white
This version would be used to produce the best-quality logo on faxes or any materials you reproduce using a copier.

Depending on the design of the logo, sometimes only either a black and white or grayscale version of the logo will be applicable. For example, for a logo with just one color in it, only a black and white version would apply. And, if elements of different colors overlap, a grayscale version will ensure that the different graphic elements do not bleed together, as they would if they were all converted to black. So you may not receive both grayscale and black and white versions, but having one or the other should suffice. File Formats:

Original graphic
The original Illustrator, Photoshop, or other program-native document. This comes in handy if you make a minor change to your company (i.e., if you add LLC or Inc.), or if you decide to change your color scheme.

To make these types of changes easiest, you need a file of the logo in the original program in which it was created. If the logo was created in Illustrator (which is preferable, because creating vector graphics in Illustrator will allow your logo to be scaled up and down as needed), the type should not be outlined, unless your designer has done so in order to modify the typeface.

If the logo was created in Photoshop, the layers of the document should not be flattened, and the type should not be rasterized (converted from editable type into pixels) ? this will ensure that it will still be editable.

Ask your designer which fonts have been used in the logo, so you could purchase it for use in other materials. This will avoid the lengthy and time-consuming process of font matching, should you work with other designers.

You should receive several different versions of the software's native file formats from the designer, in case a future designer or printer ever uses an older version of the software. For example, I provide Illustrator files in Illustrator CS along with Illustrator 9.

EPS format
I recommend that your logo be in EPS 9 format. EPS can be opened and processed by many different programs. This is also the file format most commonly accepted/requested by printers.

PDF format
You will not be able to view many of the file formats of your design that you receive unless you have graphics software applications. I suggest that you receive the PDF files of each Color Version of your logo. You will be able to view the PDF files using Adobe Acrobat Reader, available for free on Adobe's web site at www.adobe.com.

"Outlined" original format
The difference between this graphic and the original would be found in the Illustrator files. The fonts in the outlined original format would be outlined, which means that the letters are converted into shapes. In Photoshop, the type should be rasterized and the layers should be flattened. This outlined file should be provided in all of the formats listed above ? original program format, EPS, and PDF.

These outlined file versions should be provided to any printers or service bureaus to lessen the chance that the elements in your logo could inadvertently be shifted around. This will make sure that your logo will print with the right font should the printer not have the font used in your logo.

JPEG and GIF formats
For web or email use. The GIF graphic should be created with a transparent background.

TIF format at 300 dots per inch (DPI) resolution, in RGB color format ? For use in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint files.

TIF format at 300 DPI
Some printers, ad vendors (i.e., the Yellow Pages), or other designers may require this file format in order to create additional designed materials.

Having your logo in these formats will ensure that you won't ever need to have your logo redrawn or re-created for use in future projects. After all, you own your logo ? shouldn't you be able to use it as well?

Logo Design: What You Need to Know Before Jumping on the Brandwagon

Your company is branching off a new division. Your organization is starting a new program. You and a couple of cohorts have quit the 9 to 5 (opting for the 24/7) and what pops into your head? "We need a logo! A fine logo, a professional logo. We'll put it on our stationery, business cards, website, brochures and business presentations! We'll wear it on t-shirts! It will make us official and respected. We'll be branded!"

Take a deep breath. In the history of design, never once did a design firm single-handedly brand a company solely by the creation of a logo. Logo design by itself is not branding -- it's decorating. The word branding is as ubiquitous today as the word start-up was in the dot com era, but few companies truly understand the heart of branding.

Branding is not the logo that you use to represent your company. Branding is to an organization what personality is to a person. We all know it's more fun hanging out with someone who is funny than someone who has no sense of humor but is wearing a cool hat, or someone who is honest than a liar with a nice belt, or someone who is reliable than someone who's a flake with great shoes. We respect people who volunteer their time and energy helping those in need no matter what they're wearing. The outfit is important when it comes to first impressions, but it cannot by itself define a person.

A logo is a company's outfit. I have seen companies spend an inordinate amount of time and money to come up with a logo, only to realize a few years later that the logo doesn't represent them effectively and they have to start the process over. Young companies get caught hiring designers to create logos reflecting who they think they should be, rather than who they truly are. Or they hope that branding will develop from the logo, rather than the logo developing from branding. An idiot wearing a great suit is still an idiot. It seems silly to let a designer define your company personality for you -- designers have a lot of practice, but what do they really know about who you are? If you watch the brand evolution of some of this country's oldest corporate giants, you'll notice that their logos all relate somehow to the logo they first created 100 years ago. Coca-Cola is still a script font; it is updated periodically, but it doesn't change much. UPS and Burger King both updated their logos within the past 5 years, but neither veered too far from their originals. These companies understood their own brands very early on. The same is true for United Way. The small round hand has been around forever and still conveys the overall message our nation's largest philanthropic organization.

Before you jump on the brandwagon, do some company soul searching. It often makes sense to hold off on your logo until you've had a chance to live with your new company or program for a month--or six. It's no sin to use temporary letterhead, simple business cards and a basic website. Just think how many marriages could have been saved had the two parties involved waited until they were past infatuation to tie the knot (or at least waited until they were sober). Gather your staff and spend a few weeks mulling over the following questions. Come up with some of your own questions. Once the answers are clear, succinct and flow effortlessly, you are ready to call in the design troupes.

What do you do?
Who do you do it for?
Why do you do it?
How does what you do benefit others?
What makes you different from other companies doing similar things?
Who are you? Describe the culture (or personality) of your company using no more than 5 adjectives.
How do you define success? Describe a snapshot of what your company will look like when it is successful.

Clarity from the start will allow you to make an intelligent choice of how to visually represent your company in the form of a logo. Your company is sure to evolve over the years; a well-designed logo reflecting the core of your company will gracefully evolve with you.

Creating a Winning Logo

Creating a logo to get you noticed.

When you?re branding a company with a name, a colour scheme and a logo the logo is often not given enough care and attention. It should follow the chosen colour scheme and reflect the business that your company is in. Too often, particularly on the WWW logos are seen as a way to show off the design talents of the author. To create a free logo I have created this easy to follow step by step guide.

Planning

Your logo should reflect the company it represents. Create a list of all the services or products the company supplies and try to find some common ground.

Sit down and choose the colours you will be using. This is best achieved by studying the corporate colours and maybe adding a few more shades of these colours. You should aim for a maximum of 12 but ideally you will want only one or two colours. Avoid very dark colours unless it is relevant to your company. If you send out a letter on headed notepaper to a client you will want your logo to jump off the desk at them to remind them who you are.

Remember that your design may have to be very small (a business card) or very large (the side of a van) so whatever you come up with must be scaleable. Try imagining your logo as a tiny image and then as a large image. If your using lettering will it must be readable at a very small size. Will the font appear correctly in a user browser on the internet?

Consider every place your logo might appear and work out what you will need to design for. A company that deals with older people does not to be bright and modern, something a little more sedate would be more appropriate.

Until you know the answers to all the questions above don?t move on to the next section.

Creating

Keep it simple. Look at any major company in the world and see how simple their logos are. Nothing fancy for the experts so why should you have a fancy design?

Look at what the competion are doing. DO NOT COPY somebody else?s work. Sometimes I get me best inspiration from studying other people ideas and coming up with a really original one based on a concept they have used. As long as it?s not a copy of somebody else?s work your not infringing copyright.

A tip for doing this is to use Googles Image Search. Type in some key word and select the image search with the word logo. For example if you were selling cars search for ?cars + logo?. You will be presented with a selection of rival logos for other sites.

Use this to see what works and what does not. You will be drawn to the good designs and you will recognise what represents a company that sells cars. This search brings up the Alpha Romeo logo in the first few entries. This logo is slightly more complicated than you will want but works perfectly for a company producing cars.

Now start sketching some designs on paper. Keep all of the designs you make to hand as you never know when you might decide that the picture you drew before could be the one. When you have an idea don?t over develop it. You should aim to have at least 15 to 20 rough ideas before choosing 2 or 3 to work on further.

Developing

When you have chosen your two or three best ideas ask some friends what they think. Use your friends and family to test your logo. Everybody loves to give their opinion on everything so use that to your own advantage. Listen to what people have to say about your designs and you may learn something. Little things that you have not seen can be very obvious to someone that has never seen it before. Take a note of all the comments and go back to the drawing board. Look over what was said about every design and then, based on your own feelings and the comments you have collected, decide which idea you are going to develop more.

Create a slightly more refined drawing, or if you have some computer skills, make up an approximate design using a graphics program (don?t worry if you can?t do this as the next step will take care of that anyway.)

Unless you?re either a graphic designer or a printer, employ a professional to finish the work to a high standard. Your logo will appear on every bit of literature your company will ever produce and if it does not look professional then you don?t look professional. You will have saved a lot of money by developing the logo yourself so it is now time to ask a professional to finish the work.

Well done. You have just created an effective and attractive logo for your company. Be proud of your work and display it everywhere.

The Essentials Of Logo Designing

The advertising school of thought suggests, "If the customer has heard of you, you've done our job." This is what is known as "Branding". It is the messaging work a company does to encourage consumers to feel a certain way about their product. From touchy-feely character attributes to laundry lists of product features, it's a marketer's job to help you assimilate these ideas. The goal of all branding is to create an emotional tie between your clients and you. Branding isn't simply slapping a logo on a hat or coffee mug. It's the whole package of attaching a unique identity to a product or name in order to distinguish it from other variants. The biggest misconception in branding is the belief that branding is about market share, in fact it will always be about MIND AND EMOTIONAL share. A great book out there right now is, Emotional Branding by Marc Gobe, which goes into some very intriguing detail about what, obviously on the surface, seems like common sense.

No matter how big or small you are a focus on mind and emotional share will help you retain and attract clients. A logo is a very strong instrument for creating this. Your logo is: your culture, your personality, and YOU. A logo can not survive unless it is designed with simplicity and restraint, because a logo seldom gets more than a glance. In a world of clutter the simpler a logo, the easier it is to remember. Simplicity implies a meaningful idea that can be easily recalled. The simple logo reflects one or more aspects of sustainability. The key goals of sustainability are to live within our environmental limits, to achieve social justice and to foster economic and social progress. The logo design should be reproducible in full color (RGB and CMYK) and mono. The mono version should be designed to reverse. The logo must be reproducible in all sizes and formats from single-column newspaper size to banner display size.

Planning and design coordination are essential components in a corporate identification program, which interrelate to achieve the desired total impression. A professional and consistent image is essential for your corporate identity. A good logo design brief ensures that no time is wasted, and that you receive targeted logo options as soon as possible. The logo brief also helps us focus our attention on the areas that best serve your business, making you much happier with the final result. A good logo creates an atmosphere, and especially an alphabet of compassion. People relate to words, their meaning, and what they recognize around them. Words have strength and significance, which equals trust and belief.

The proper combination of characters and/or graphics should be used to create a single design to identify a company or organization which shall be often trademarked and included on all company printed materials and ads. A logo gives a complete professional image that a business wishes to project to make it recognizable and distinct. It is a successful business identity that is consistently carried through all aspects of a company's access to the public, customers, and potential customers: business card, letterhead and envelope, brochures, print advertisements, Web presence, media advertisements, signage, etc.

Using Logo Bags as Trade Show Giveaways

Trade shows are among the top events where promotional items are very effective. And amongst the thousands of promotional items out there, logo bags deliver the best result in promoting your product. Below are the top reasons that make them an ideal trade show giveaway:

1. The functionality of logo bags are perfect for trade shows.

During trade shows, people will be receiving a lot of marketing materials. Thus, the most appreciated promotional item in these marketing events are logo bags. The reason for this is that it gives the trade show attendees an easy way to store all the brochures, fliers, giveaways, and other marketing products they will be receiving during the event. And since all of the other giveaways will be stored in your logo bags, your promotional item and logo will surely standout.

2. Logo bags have a big area for imprinting.

One of the foremost purposes of promo items is to advertise your company to the attendees and to direct them to your booth. But trade shows are often crowded and there is also an abundance of marketing materials distributed during the event, thus making it hard for most marketing products to achieve their desired exposure. But what sets apart logo bags from the other giveaways is the large imprinting area. The large surface of a logo bag makes it an ideal medium to advertise your logo and message in a size that can clearly be seen by your target market. This, together with the fact that it is carried everywhere by the recipients, makes a logo bag an ideal roaming billboard during conventions.

3. There are many types of logo bags to choose from.

Variety is very important for promotional items because varied giveaways gives you the ability to target your particular niche. And of all the marketing products, logo bags offer the most variety that are very defined to target different market segments. One example is if your potential clients have psychographics that fit an active and sporty lifestyle, then distributing a duffel bag with your logo will attract the people that fit this description to your booth.

This shows that logo bags are effective in attracting the target market, and will have a high level of exposure during and after the event due to the bags' usefulness and the clarity of the imprinted logo. With all these, logo bags are really the perfect trade show giveaways.

6 Steps to Professional Logo Design

-Use a color scheme. If you use too many colors, typically your designs will begin to look tacky and unprofessional. This does somewhat depend on the business type, however. If you're creating a logo for a toy store, this would be an exception. But you'd definitely want to stick to only a couple colors if you're designing for an insurance firm, for instance.

-Keep it simple. Try creating logos that convey as much information as possible while also being as simple as possible. This is the mark of a professional designer. Having a simple logo will help in a number of ways, including the ease of distribution. For instance, they are easy to place on letterhead and business cards because they don't require much space to be recognized and understood. If your logo is the Mona Lisa with some text slapped on top of it, you would always need the logo to be quite large just for people to be able to see what it is, and this is the kind of thing you will want to avoid.

-Make it memorable. You want viewers to become used to a logo, and they will do just that if you make it unforgettable. Think outside of the box and try to create a unique quality that's never been seen before. Making your logos memorable will, if you are or wish to become a designer, help you in the same way it helps the business it represents, with recognition. If your logo is well-known, that's a great mark for the portfolio.

-Use a font that compliments the style of what it represents. You aren't going to want to use an old-english type font for a pet store logo, and you aren't going to want to use a child's handwriting for a debt consolidation firm. Just use common sense in this area. You can also search the web for free fonts if you aren't quite happy with what you've got. There are a bunch of websites out there that contain lots of great community-designed fonts.

-Make your logo fit with different background colors. If you've got black text and a black icon, they won't show up if you have to place them on a black background, so create multiple versions of your logos to accommodate for different background colors. If it's imperative to stick to a certain color, then you might try adding a stroke (border) to your design to make it show up better, or perhaps placing the logo on top of a solid-colored rectangle of inverse color. You always will want your logos to be clearly visible so make every effort to keep them that way.

-Use vectors. Create your logos using vectors (paths) as opposed to pixels if possible, so you will be able to scale them up at a later date with no loss in quality. This way, you will not run into any issues if you ever need to print out your logo that you've created as a 200*100 pixel file onto a poster or banner. Insufficient size when you're stuck with pixels just isn't very easy to recover from. The only options you would have would be to either ignore the problem and scale it up despite the bad quality, or completely redesign the logo at a higher resolution, and you're simply not going to want to do either of these.

If you stick to these guidelines your logos will start looking very attractive, but don't take them all at face value; rules are made to be broken!

How to Design a Successful Logo

A Logo can help or hurt Your Business: what about your logo:

When it comes to design a successful logo the key word is “The quality” It is that simple! Trademarks and Logos make up the most international language in the world. An excellent logo design can cross many barriers and provide your organization with a means of delivering to your customers a clear and consistent message.
Every successful company has its own \"character\" and just as human character, it can also be very complex. Same is true with your company\'s personality. A successful logo is a means of squeezing a complex reality into a single, simple statement, one that can be controlled, modified, developed and matured over time. Your logo needs to be much more than just a unique mark for your company. It must be a sign of quality, value, and reliability too.

A logo must do these things successfully, what about your logo?

Recognition: for your company, product, or service.

Distinguish: it from the mass of other similar companies.

Team Building with Custom Made Logo Apparel

Do you run a small business or a small team which needs to work together? Giving your employees embroidered apparel builds a sense of team spirit and camaraderie. In addition, it rewards your employees and shows them that they are part of something. If your people face the public, its another easy chance to show customers your name.

The process that creates logo apparel is called embroidery. You may have not thought about this much but you very likely have embroidered apparel in your closet. That little sewn picture on your polo shirt is embroidery. Embroidery businesses exist in a variety of sizes. This is because of the investment needed. An embroidery machine capable of sewing 20 pieces at once is more expensive and complex to maintain compared to a machine which sews one piece at a time. For 1-100 pieces, a small company will give you the best price and delivery time. For 100 or more pieces, you want your quote from a “contract” embroiderer. Price and delivery depend on the machines that will be used, how many pieces can be sewn at once, and the location of the business.

Buying these items is not difficult, but it does consist of multiple steps. Custom logo decorated shirts and caps are not expensive. But, these purchases do require some advanced thought and planning. To get the best price and product, allow at least one week for all but the first step. This varies depending on the size of the business that you are working with.

Step One - Determine the embroidered graphic.

If you are an established small business owner then you probably already have a logo and you certainly have a company name. You may already have stationary or business card with your logo and these are often suitable graphics. Using your logo and/or company name are very popular. The embroiderer needs your logo graphic to quote step two.

Step Two - Digitizing the design graphic.

Custom made apparel is sewn using a computer controlled embroidery (sewing) machine. So, your design graphic must be converted into a form which the machine can understand. Today\'s embroiderers call this process \"digitizing\". Digitizing is performed with software specially made for the purpose. However, using this software is a special skill requiring large quantities of experience. So, most small companies outsource this work and large ones may have digitizers on staff. Often, only after the design is sewn, it’s discovered that the characteristics of the fabric require adjustments to the digitized design. A highly experienced digitizer can provide a digitized design with few or no adjustments needed.

Step Three - Sewing the final product.

The digitized embroidery design is transferred into the embroidery machine’s computer memory. The machine is setup with the thread colors required and the blank pieces are sewn. The cost of this step varies depending on piece quantity and stitch count. There is a fixed amount of setup time for a particular design and blank product. Depending on the piece to be sewn and the previous sewing job, the needle for each thread color may need to be changed. Each thread color needed must be mounted and threaded. The stitch count contributes to the sewing time for each piece.

One of the most important factors in designing a logo are the colors you choose to use when designing it. Your logo must send a clear message to your whole audience as it will be used in many different mediums and advertising spots. A tag could also be included in your company's logo; the tag is simply a list of services or products your company provides. A tag is a great way to make your company stand out from the competition. Just like your logo, you should keep your tagline short and simple, but keep it memorable.

You will want to use your logo to establish your brand in every marketing instance, in print as well as online. How to Select a Great Logo for Your Company

Selecting a logo for your company can be a really tough task because the logo design is the identity of your company. It is the first thing that pops into a customer’s mind when somebody mentions your name. It is important to have a custom logo design so that your identity is secure and distinct.

A good design should attract but not overpower, it should be clean, readable and easily identifiable. Because the logo is so important you shouldn’t get your logo done from a standard design shop. Instead you should go to a logo design company that specializes in custom logo design and can give you a business logo design that has a unique touch to it. A standardized design will never stick in the memory of your customers like a custom logo design.

So what is it that makes a great logo design? Think of some of the top brands in existence. They all have logos that have bright colors, are easy to identify, easy to read and uncontroversial. If your company logo does not conform to these requirements then it will be harder for you to generate recognition for it.

When you get a logo designed make sure that it is unique. The designers that create company logo for you should have original ideas. If your logo resembles any existing popular brand, you not only lose your identity but also stand the risk of a lawsuit. That is why it is very important to have a distinct logo for your company.

Remember to make your logo uncontroversial. We have all come across logos that are funny, weird or have odd shapes that have been made fun of on the Internet. When you opt for a weirdly shaped design you are sending the message that you are not serious about your business. That does not work well in your favor. People may love to laugh at outrageous logos but they want to do business with a company that has a professional image.

Logos should also be readable. They should clearly represent your company’s identity. Some designers can go over-creative with the logo making it impossible to read. If you have to ask what the logo stands for, that’s not the logo design for your company. Always ask your graphic logo design company to create a logo that is easy to read. In the Internet age nobody has a second microsecond to waste, so if you don’t want your buyers to click away, make things easy for them.

While it is easy today to find a logo design company thanks to the Internet, you must make sure you purchase your custom logo design from a professional outfit because if you pick an unscrupulous company they may sell your design or similar designs to several companies and you will not have a unique identity anymore.

How do you find if a company is good? Just have a look at the portfolio, their existing designs and ask for customer testimonials.

A good logo expresses the identity of your company - the personality, promise and purpose of whatever it is that you are selling. You want to carefully choose your color scheme for your logo. The psychology of color is a useful tool and you'll want to make sure you utilize it wisely to accomplish your company's goals. Take the color blue, for instance, which is a popular color in logos because it creates a sense of trust in the viewer.

Whether your logo is appearing in a newspaper ad or the side of a city bus, it should be the focus of everyone who sees it. You want an audacious logo that explodes and captivates your customer. Tips On Designing Your Business Logo

Logos Have Become A Familiar Part Of The Marketplaces People know what the golden arches and swoosh logos mean right away. The recognition of brand names begins early. Great logos impress consumers early in life, including the 3 year child who knows all the trucks by their logo when she sees them approaching from down the road. One the other hand the child's grandfather prefers another brand of vehicle and has that brand's bow tie logo on many of the things that he owns, including items like clothing.

Large corporations aren't the only companies that can benefit from brand recognition on the market. By using logos, these small businesses can build the brand recognition with the people in their community and the surrounding areas. Include it as part of your electronic signature, as part of a telephone book ad, on the side of your company vehicle, letterhead, on the business cards you hand out, and on your website.

Developing the perfect logo is a challenge as it is so important to your company. Experts in the field caution against falling prey to several common mistakes. A homemade log will look like a homemade logo, even when you use clip art as part of it. The majority of people have reached the stage in which we recognize some common clip art designs. Found in one widely used clip-art data base, a string bean man was used as a company logo. I instantly thought they could put some effort into creating a better logo than that and sadly, I wasn't impressed.

Avoid using text only logos, you may lose your customer's attention if they are forced to read something through. With precious little eye appeal, simple text, also including monograms, usually signifies that it is very easily forgotten, which is counterproductive to the purpose of having a logo in the first place. Even as some businesses have effectively utilized logos with just text, it is an incredibly hard thing to accomplish.

However, you also do not want to be too complex with your logo. Two things that could make your logo too complicated are special effects, and photos. You should also make sure that your logo looks great in black and white. Often a black and white logo is preferable when used in the yellow pages or in a newspaper ad. Without your knowing about it, there is a good chance that people will either copy, or fax, or both, pages with your logo on it. The logo should still be identifiable when coming through the other end of the fax machine.

After covering the various options in this discussion you might want to consider have a professional help you out with the original design for your company logo. In 2000, there was a sweepstakes game that had a very innovative graphic designer as part of the team, and they developed their logo for them. Your logo might even have the staying power to be recognized by potential customers many years into the future! It also transferred well into black and white from its original red and green.

We were fortunate enough to have a graphic designer be with our team. You are truly lucky if you know a graphic designer. But if you don't, you will have to go looking for one. Designers are simple to come across. All you need to do is search Google with the word LOGO to see results.

There is one website columnist who suggests you don't settle for the first several companies right away. Rather, you should invest a good bit of time to locate four or five firms with work samples that appeal to you and that fit in your budget range. You should also take into account how well they work with their customers in cases like refunds, tech support, as well as things like what kind of formats they offer their files, and how much opportunity they give you to revise your logo.

It is also convenient to choose a marketing consultant or graphic designer based on locality; it is easier to meet in person and the product doesn't have far to travel. Remember that the creation of your logo is an investment, no matter who you choose to design it. Potential customers may be dissuaded from using your business if you make a poor investment. Being able to flow with the firm's mission, provide the appropriate image that you want, and is memorable are key ingredients that you want to accomplish as you put your money into the important logo.
